Data 101: an introduction to understanding and using data
Who is this course for?
This is a high-level, introductory course aimed at beginners and those new to using data. It is intentionally ‘basic’ in its approach and content. No previous knowledge of data or statistics is required.
What will I learn?
Data is fundamental to how we function as humans. We use data every day, many times a day, probably without even knowing it. It’s data that helps us understand what’s going on and what needs to be done.
Therefore, it’s important that we have the right data and that we can understand and use it effectively. This training course offers practical guidance to help build skills and confidence in understanding and using data. It will talk about the different types of data and how to find it. It will guide you through a series of questions designed to help make sure you understand the data you are working with. This will be followed by some techniques to help turn data into knowledge.
By the end of the course, you will understand:
- what data is and how to find it
- the questions you need to ask to make sure you understand data
- some basic techniques for using data.
