Demystifying evaluation
A series of online training sessions coming soon!
From the end of April 2024 we’ll be running a series of free bitesize training sessions to help people working in social care use evaluation to improve learning and better demonstrate the impact of their work. These are part of our evaluation ‘offer’ to support people working in social care.
Our virtual sessions will give an overview of evaluation approaches and are ideal for:
- project leads/managers
- performance and improvement teams
- impact officers
- funders
- innovation officers
- practice leads
- commissioners.
We’ll focus on the benefits of evaluation and how it can be an effective way to learn, as well as measure and demonstrate impact. We’ll also discuss some of the common challenges and difficulties faced when carrying out evaluations. And we’ll explore useful tools and techniques, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and share experiences.
“We want to help you show the impact of your important work, and think about how evaluation can help you continually learn and improve. The training is designed to give you the confidence to plan and carry out your own evaluations and ‘demystify’ the evaluation process.” Emyr Williams, Senior Evaluation Lead, Social Care Wales.
How will the sessions work?
Each session will take around two hours and will focus on different elements of evaluation. Throughout we’ll explore:
- the importance of an evaluation mindset
- how to use a ‘story of change’ to measure impact
- ethical considerations when carrying out an evaluation.
We’re also working with other subject experts to provide support on:
- economic evaluation in social care
- using creative and participatory approaches in evaluations.
The sessions will be hosted by Social Care Wales and our colleagues at DEEP (Developing Evidence-Enriched Practice). All sessions will be free and open to anyone working in social care.
More information will follow on the exact dates and times of the sessions. But if you’re interested in learning more about our evaluation training sessions and the support we can provide, then please e-mail: emyr.williams@socialcare.wales.
“Really useful training that I can put into practice in my role, and tackles one of the most challenging areas as a provider - how to evidence the difference we are making.” - Feedback from a participant in the pilot evaluation training sessions.
