Join our online workshop to help set research priorities on transitions from children's to adults' social care support

14 June 2024

We’re running this research priority-setting exercise to know more about the barriers, problems and uncertainties created by the transition from children’s to adults’ social care support.

Our aim is to get a broad understanding of where there are gaps in research around transitions. This means working with children, young people and younger adults accessing care and support, their families and carers. We’re also engaging with people working in social care and other colleagues in local authorities, health, academia and third sector organisations.

This year we’ve carried out a survey and collected feedback from discussion groups to gather people’s views. We’ve received a range of responses to help us identify research questions.

We’re now at the point where we need help to decide the priority questions for future research that will address a gap in evidence and knowledge around transitions.

How can you help?

Have you experienced moving from children’s to adults’ services, either as a young person or as someone supporting a young person like a family member, carer or professional? If so, we need your help to agree the ‘top 10’ priority questions for research on this topic.

We’re looking for people to take part in an online workshop to share their experiences and views.

Ideally, we’d like to bring together people from as wide and diverse a range of experiences and backgrounds as possible.

Event details

The workshop will take place on Zoom on 7 August 2024 from 1pm to 4pm. Participants will have discussions in small groups, with the support of a facilitator.

To register your interest in the workshop you can fill in our expression of interest form or email research@socialcare.wales.

I work as part of the knowledge mobilisation team. We find ways to support people working in social care to use, and carry out research in practice, planning, and policymaking. We’re doing this through building relationships, communities and working with partners to promote the use of research and evidence. My previous roles include campaigning work, rights-based practice, policy, and service development and delivery. Whilst working with older people, I became interested in research. I studied part time at Cardiff University and graduated with a master’s degree in research methods. I’ve been actively involved in a research project spanning Wales and Scotland with a focus on strengths-based social work practice and development. When I’m not working, I enjoy being part of a book group and exploring beautiful Wales and beyond.
