Connecting Care
The Connecting Care programme for Wales is delivering the next generation of digital solutions for community care, mental health and social services in Wales.
For social services, the Connecting Care programme will first focus on replacing the Wales Community Care Information System (WCCIS) with a new digital solution that will support the work of local authority social services departments.
Two solution providers will operate in Wales, working with local authorities to design systems that meet the needs of their workers and support the delivery of high-quality care and support to the people of Wales. These are:
- OLM Systems Eclipse
- Mosaic, developed by the Access Group
The Connecting Care system also considers how we share data and starts the process of creating a standardised approach to describing the data we collect.
We’re doing this so that we can electronically share data between different systems. You can find out why sharing data is important by reading our page on data standards and FHIR.
Apart from data standards, the Connecting Care programme considers how we can improve the way we use data and technology to support people who use social care and make it easier for the people who provide social care to deliver it.
This could be supporting innovative ways of collecting or recording data or developing lots of easy-to-use guides and resources for people who work in social care in Wales, such as guidance on using AI safely.
Social Care Wales is a strategic delivery partner in the programme. Connecting Care is managed by the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) and Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW).
We're leading the work of co-developing data standards with social care professionals, helping local authorities to understand their data process so we can find ways to improve them, and producing data practice guides and resources.
