The using evidence resource guide
About the guide
The using evidence resource guide gives you access to a wide range of resources that will help you produce and use social care evidence.
From support with finding existing evidence, to information on how to prepare a research or evaluation plan and collect data, the guide is filled with resources that will help you achieve your research and evaluation goals.
The guide was funded by Welsh Government to support the implementation of its Performance and improvement framework for social services.
It was developed by members of the Wales School for Social Care Research and the Developing evidence enriched practice (DEEP) programme.
The guide was previously hosted on the DEEP website before being moved to the Insight Collective in 2024.
All the resources we signpost to are peer-reviewed and relevant to the reporting requirements of the Performance and improvement framework. We haven't produced these resources ourselves, nor do we provide a detailed explanation of how to use findings to inform practice. To find out more about different ways to use evidence in practice, please visit the DEEP website.
Why the resources have been chosen
The resources in this guide have been chosen to help people implement the Codes of practice in relation to the Performance and improvement framework for social services.
The Performance and improvement framework supports local authorities to report their work relating to the Codes of practice issued under the Social services and well-being (Wales) Act 2014.
“The code of practice describes an ambition to seek real and sustained change in how social services in Wales is measured and reported on and how the information gathered is used to inform the future of social services in Wales.”
