Margaret Butterworth Care Home Forum 22 October 2025
We will listen to two presentations this forum:
1. Dementia Training for the Social Care Workforce
Becky Robinson and Megan Anderson, Alzheimer’s Society
Becky will be presenting their latest report, focusing on 'Why dementia training for care workers matters, and how to deliver it'. Within the presentation we will be providing an update of the social care policy landscape; the methodology for the report, benefits of dementia training, the five principles for implementation of good quality dementia training; and alongside these we will highlight two examples of dementia training that meet these criteria.
2. Thriving in Residential Care
Bethany Morgan Brett, Research Fellow, My Home Life, City St George’s, University of London
My Home Life England has conducted one of the largest qualitative research studies on older people’s experiences of living in residential care. Our resulting research Thriving in Residential Care shines a light on how, when conditions are right, care homes can support older people to really thrive. It revealed six key themes: Thrive Relationally, Thrive Actively, Thrive Inclusively, Thrive Securely, Thrive with Dignity, and Thrive Healthily.
This presentation introduces My Home Life, outlines the key findings, and shows how they’ve been translated into training resources and applied by a local authority to improve services and deliver real-world impact.
Link to join the webinar will be shared with all attendees closer to the date of the Forum
