The role of language in relationship-based practice: the language of breaks from caring
Join us for this free 1.5-hour webinar on 10 March 2026 2.30-4 PM
The words we chose during support planning conversations are an integral part of relationship-based practice. This is an area where practitioners can exercise their autonomy. However, it is an often-overlooked element of practice.
We provide an example of how our word choices can have impacts (positive and negative) for people. We share some insights from our work looking at the language used to discuss breaks from caring. This work included engagement events with unpaid carers, and people whose role it is to support them.
In the webinar we will share what we learnt from unpaid carers, those that support them and the wider literature. The webinar will include opportunities to reflect on the findings together and discuss their implications for relationship-based practice.
