Understanding FHIR in social care: An introduction to FHIR
Understanding FHIR in social care: An introduction to FHIR
Social care is increasingly expected to work in a more connected way with health, local authorities and wider partners. The Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard is becoming a key part of that journey; helping services share information consistently, safely and in a way that supports better care.
We want everyone across the sector to be included in this conversation; therefore, we’re running two accessible, supportive webinars designed to build confidence, whether you’re completely new to FHIR or already familiar with how data standards can support care.
This introductory session is designed for people with no technical background, just curiosity about how better information sharing can support better care.
You’ll get a simple, non‑technical explanation of what FHIR is, why it matters to social care in Wales, and how it helps services talk to each other more effectively. We’ll demystify common FHIR terms and show how the standard is about clarity and consistency, not coding.
Participants will:
- understand what FHIR is, in everyday language, and why it matters for social care in Wales
- recognise common FHIR terms and feel less anxious about technical terminology
- see how standards support safe and consistent information sharing
- feel more confident taking part in future conversations and joining later sessions
- share a common starting point with colleagues across the sector.
