New animation launched to support good practice in data sharing

29 May 2026

We’ve launched a new short animation designed to help organisations better understand the processes and good practice involved in sharing data safely and effectively.

Building confidence in data sharing

Sharing data well is essential to improving outcomes for people who need care and support. However, decisions about sharing information can be complex and require careful consideration of legal duties, information governance and people’s rights.

This animation provides a clear introduction to good data sharing practice. It explains:

  • why data sharing is important
  • the principles that should guide decision‑making
  • the processes that support ethical sharing
  • what this looks like in practice.

It is intended for anyone involved in sharing data across social care, including practitioners, managers and organisational leaders.

Watch and share the animation

The animation is available in both Welsh and English, and you can watch it here or link them to your work from our YouTube channel.

The animation can be used as part of learning and development, team discussions or as a prompt to review existing data sharing practice.

Supporting wider data programmes

Good data sharing underpins wider work across Social Care Wales, including the Connecting Care Programme and the National Data Resource (NDR). A shared understanding of how and when to share information helps ensure data can be used appropriately to support care, learning and service improvement.
